Is it necessary or even possible to book reservations for the ferry from Istanbul to Bandirma or for buses along the Aegean coast?

If you want to travel on Friday night by bus, or Saturday/Sunday morning by ferry, yes, you need to make an advance reservation in summer time. There are many people who travels to Aegean Region just for the weekend from Istanbul.

If you want to travel on a weekday, I am sure that you can find a seat in one of many bus companies.

And yes, you can make advance reservation for the buses and ferry.
