Since joining Thorntree I have been delighted to read so many wonderful trip reviews. These are most often full of the small details so important and useful to independent travellers. How sad then that in time these slip down the forum pages and get lost or forgotten about. All that help…all that typing! So I have trawled through the last 12 months and collated all the trip reviews and, after equal amounts of bullying and flattery,Zabba(mmwwahh!)has agreed to make this a sticky,so it will now be at…

Hello cycling friends!
We are planning a cycling tour from Prague to Isfahan for next year and as a part of that we started to research the route options. Things to consider: we will be travelling with a 2years old daughter and heavy bicycles and therefore we are looking for short and most importantly as much flat cycling terrain “as possible”. We know about many cyclist passing Turkey along the Black Sea but this is not an option to us due to very hilly landscapes.
We will be happy to receive…

So, I booked a flight last night to fly to Turkey this morning from UK.

I am an Australian Passport holder.

Did some checking after booking my very last minute flight that as an Australian I need a visa... apparently. I almost just assumed that rules applied to UK passport holders (no eVisa needed) would be the same for AU passport holders.

Price of eVisa is AUD 100. Very expensive! Just for a weekend. Ouch.

So, I payed for the visa and showed up at the airport next day (this morning) to…

We may be in Istanbul shortly and am wondering how the tourist situation is. Are the markets still busy, is the Blue Mosque full of tourists, etc. We can change our plans still if necessary, if things are not like normal, so am just hoping for some current advise from somebody there at the moment. (Realise things change everyday at the moment.)

I'm headed to Turkey in September, which I know is still a long way away, but does anyone know what the current entry procedures are for people coming from the US? I read somewhere that there are screenings and possibly a quarantine from people arriving from countries with a lot of cases, can anyone confirm or elaborate on that?

Hi, we want to go to Turkey for a week around 7 Sept and need some input on where to go. Was looking at either Dalaman or Bodrum but am open to other suggestions. We like swimming in the sea, kayaking, gentle cycling\hiking, and wandering through small villages. Not too bothered about sandy beaches, actually prefer swimming off the rocks. We aren’t interested in night life or lounging by the pool. Have been to Izmir before & have spent a little time in Antalya so want somewhere different. Would…

Hi

As a South African I can only get an eVisa for Turkey for 30 days. We plan to walk the Lycian Way so would need one for more than 30-days. The process in-country is onerus, requiring Police Clearance certificates, Residency Status from Home Affairs, etc. It would take me over a month to get this, and only then can I book an appointment. I phone the Turkish Consular-General who tole me that I can apply for a new 30-day eVisa while in Turkey. This is contrary to everything that I can find…

Hello, so I arrive to Istanbul on April 6 at 18:30. I'm planning to stay in Sultanahmet area and visit the main attractions, I will have 2 full days for that purpose and I'm planning to take a plane to Bodrum on the 9th. This could be very early in the morning or very late at night (please recommend which one). In other words, I would only have time to visit the most important stuff and most touristy of Istanbul.
In Bodrum I only want to visit the ruins of the Mausoleum and see the Herodotus…

Hi,

I have found information that says at least some of the passenger carriages for the BTK railway have been delivered, and that there could be a passenger service starting in 2020.

Does anyone have better information than this? We might be traveling through there late this Summer (from Kars to Tbilisi). Certainly doing this by bus is possible, I was just wondering whether there is any indication whether the train route will be feasible by then.

We need to travel from Finike to Goreme in early June. Would like to travel by land. Have checked buses but would prefer to hire vehicle and driver, leaving Finike about midday and arriving Goreme the next day, afternoon. Probably staying overnight in Konya
Questions
Is it possible to book this a day in advance, on arrival in Finike?
Is it better to prebook? If so does anyone have contacts
Is it considered safe? We have experience in other countries of drivers practically falling asleep at the…
