Worth it??

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia

Hello,

We have a week booked from the 21st of September....fly into Zadar in the evening and are thinking of travelling down to Split the next day to get the ferry over to Hvar. We've read a lot of good things about the island of Hvar recently, so this is why we are so tempted to make the trip!
Can anybody say whether or not this would be a worth while journey, considering we only have a week, or should we make the most of our time and go to the islands which are more accessible from Zadar?

We are thinkingof camping....has anyone done this in these areas?

Thanks and best wishes,

Hvar is definitely worth a visit. While the islands in Zadar archipelago are beautiful in their own right and you would not make a mistake if you spent a few relaxing days on one or two of them, they are more of a rural and quiet kind while Hvar is a miniature reneissance town on a beautiful lavender island, quite chic and trendy and crowded. Expensive, too.

Thanks for that.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get to Split from Zadar by bus? How long does it take on the boat over to Hvar?

Cheers!

The bus from Zadar to Split takes almost 4 hours. There are fast catamarans which make the trip in about 1 hour. As far as I know, most companies have only 1 or 2 ferries/catamarans per day on this route, so don't count on getting on the boat right after getting off the bus.

Well, the last reply is somewhat misleading. Duration of the bus trip from Zadar to Split depends on the bus company...some run local some express service. Count on about 3hrs. Companies to recommend are Contus, Puntamika Line, Autotrans.....you may be able to check their schedule online. The boat info above is for Split to Hvar trip. During the summer there are more connections daily. Check Jadrolinija or SEM web sites.
