Visa registration

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Russia

I am going to Moscow for 3 days and wondered if i need my visa registered. The reason i ask is because i will arrive in Moscow on the trans mongolian train at 2.30pm and will be at the airport, ready to leave less than 72 hours later - 69 hours i think, but my flight wont depart for another few hours which will technically take me over the 72 hour limit. Are they so strict as to count the hours or does my arrival day count as one full day?

Thanks in advance.

Do you plan to sleep under the bridges? If you sleep in a hotel you do not have the problem "Registration". And keep your trainticket.

Im not sure i understand. Are you saying if i am staying in a hostel then i dont have to register my visa?
Every foreigner in Russia has to regsiter their visa but you have 3 days in which to do so, my problem is how strict are they on the 72 hours? I am staying in Moscow a few hours over the allowed 72, am i going to have a problem at the airport when i intend to leave?

No, what Spoerle is saying is that if you stay at a hotel or a hostel they should be able to arrange to register you without problems.

Nothing is stamped with the date so that if you arrive in Moscow at 2359 on Monday you are expected to register by the close of business on Wednesday. It is three days meaning the close of business on the third day. There is NOTHING which officially states 72 hours. The day you arrive is day one and the next day is day two and so forth.

There is NO proof of registration these days so it is hard to predict whether you will have trouble departing without registering.

BTW you did not provide the most relevant information, what day of the week do you arrive/depart. If you arrive on Friday and depart on Monday, the weekend days are not included in the 3 days and this you should be fine.

BTW do you drive through red traffic lights or fail to stop at stop signs in the middle of the night? If not, then you should register since it is a legal requirement of travel in Russia.
