Trans-siberian Railway TSR Nov 7-15

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Russia

Hey there fellow travellers,

I've been planning to to the TSR for a long time and will finally get to do it this fall. Use to travel with my ex a lot and this will be my first time travelling solo. I'll be leaving Miami Nov 5 arriving to Moscow Nov 6 and plan to take the TSR from Moscow to Ulaanbatar around Nov 7, stop at lake Baikal for a day and arrive to Mongolia around Nov 12th. Plan to explore the coolest spots in Mongolia including Ulaanbaatar, Gobi Desert, etc. and then continue on to Beijing around +-Nov 20. While in Beijing I'm planning to travel to visit remote parts of the Great Wall those closer to the sea.

Anyone taking the TSR around these dates?

All the advise from people who have done the TRS is greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Enrique

One day around Baikal is definetly not enough - I suppose that the lake will be a highlight of the entire trip.

Hi Rusm and thank you for your reply, how many days around Baikal (Irkutsk) do you recommend?

2

If you want to go to Olkhon - the biggest Island of the lake you should stay at least 4 days in the region. The island is located in 300km from Irkutsk. Excursion along Circum -Baikal railway takes a whole day.
