Hi all! First-time poster here.

This June, I will be studying abroad briefly in Prague and Vienna for a total of 2 weeks. After that, I'll have a week on my own before meeting up with my mother in Venice to continue hopping around Europe. I'm in the process of deciding on a city somewhere in the area - by which I mean a train ride or quick flight away - in which I can spend my solo week. I would greatly appreciate suggestions!

I have been to many cities throughout Western Europe, but I have yet to see most of Eastern Europe.
History, the arts, and sailing greatly interest me.
The rest of my trip will involve studying the careers of iconic composers of the 18th and 19th centuries with an emphasis on Mozart, then later traveling with my mother to Rome, Pompeii, Athens, and England/Scotland to relax and see Stonehenge. It'd be awesome to find a place for my solo week that piques similar interests.

I will continue researching possibilities on my own, but if anyone perhaps has a location or experience they would like to recommend, I would greatly appreciate it!! Happy traveling!

Budapest is three hours away by train along the most direct route. It's a little longer if you take the more scenic routes via Bratislava and the Danube Bend or via Sopron.

The most popular (and touristed, for a reason)...would include Budapest for sure.Krakow too.

Plenty of history and culture, and arts,in both of them...though perhaps not so good for sailing! Though there is the Danube in Budapest as mentioned, and boat trips are easy enough.

If you prefer somewhere on/near the sea?

You could have a look at Riga,Tallinn,Split......St Petersburg even, though the visa is a pain.Great place for classical music though.

For somewhere excellent and really different...Istanbul.
