Russia in December

Hello everyone, I hope that you all are doing great today. I have a question. Some friends and I are planning a trip to Saint Petersburg, Russia in the middle of December for two weeks. I have only been there in the summer. I was told that they have just re-built a soviet area ski resort north of the city and that is where we will go, but how is the night life in December?? I know that airfare and the apartment will be a great bargain since it will be in the winter. But, I just want to know if there will be plenty to do at night like in the summer. Thanks, Sal

In December it gets dark quite early but it isn't as cold as in Jan and Feb. Sunrise/Sunset

In my experience time of year doesn't make much difference regarding the night life. Russians just bundle up and go.

On my website, on the Petersburg page is a great banya you and friends can rent for an evening. I highly recommend doing something along those lines as you are going with friends.

there's a nice (sort of) hill at the lakes at ozerki (blue metro line), in the north of the city. even though that's probably not what you were looking for, there's a nice little slope ending on a frozen lake, and you can rent sledges and rubber tubes there.

Krasnoe Ozero and Zolotaya Dolina are located close to each other (and close to Snezny) and together have the best choice of the slopes. If you are looking for accomodation there, make your reservation now. If the site doesn't exist in English (like Krasnoe Ozero or Tuurati Park) you can contact them by e-mail.

An alpine ski resort never existed there at the soviet time. It is completely new.

What about night life in St.Petersburg, it is the same in the winter of in the summer. Except the beach parties, of course.

Actually I am flying into Vladivostok for the Russian christmas myself.
I joked to an acquaintance who was born there that I was going to experience my first Siberian christmas.
Her response was "Correction-Vladivostok is not really in Siberia, geographically speaking:) In the real Siberia (such cities as Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, for example) it may hit 35 degrees below zero, or even 40 below. Vladivostok in winter is like Gold Coast compared to that:)"

Still, coming from sub tropical Brisbane, I don't think "I" will think it is like the Gold Coast.

Still trying to buy suitable clothes with only a few weeks to go.
