Prague tips

some tips on places to stay in Prague, please ... preferably near city centre, as I'd like to wander aroudn alone at night, taking int he ambience ... beleive Charles Bridge adn surrounds particularly awesome at night ...

also, possible to get from Prague to Lenti (Hungary) by train, or would have to go to Budapest first? How long would the journey take, and can one book on the net?

If you go from Prague to Lenti -whatever your reason-you don't have to go via Budapest. The easiest route is:

Prague-Wien-Sopron-Szombathely-Zalaegerszeg-Lenti

It's going to take a whole day and you can't book on the net.

If you want recommendations for accommodation you need to give a budget and your requirements.

Travellers Hostel (Dlouha branch) is very central (1 min walk from the Old Town Square) if you are looking for budget accommodation.

www.bahn.de is good for checking train routes all over Europe.

thanks ... that was helpful1 I need to go to Lenti from Prague (or vice versa,) coz i am booked at the Abbazia Country Club, in Hungary, for which the nearest rlwy stn is Lenti,and i also want to do Prague on this trip ... Crazy, I know, but that's me!

1.you dont need so many train-sites, as about all are in bahn.co.uk (or bahn.de if you like-the mother of them)-can set to via'with the options.
2.szeker is magyar and knows the vasut=rails, the route he suggests makes it MUCH more longer in time as simply via BPest-I dont quite see why so many people seem so hell-bent at ''avoiding'' a capital or so-you opnly have to change trains!
and yes, only those from too far away seem to think one can//book''a rather double-meaning word- trains via web in east-Europe: you simply come up and buy atciekt-in this case cannot do that in 1 international either-then you find yourself a seat on the next train out.

I was there one weekend - and atmosphere (and price) is ...........indescribable!

I think things should be cheap at the end of October anywhere in the city unless you are going five star.

We stayed at a small hotel Castle Steps the end of last month. It was cheap and the location was to die for. The ambience around Charles Bridge when the sun goes down is brilliant.

Also, if you're in the area there is a brilliant steak house on the same street up near the castle. Can't remember the street name but somebody in the area will know.
