nice restaurant in praha

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Czech Republic

We are planing to visit Praha from Oct. 18 to 20, and looking for nice restaurants. We are a group of 16. Hofefully, they will be places where Praguers loves(not for tourists). It doesn't matter if they are a bit expensive. We want to taste traditional Czech. Thank you in advance.

Hi, try some of Ambiente restaurants: http://www.ambi.cz/index_eng.php They are all located in the centre and you may choose from different styles. I usualy go to Ambiente Brasileiro in Slovansky dum. Book in advance.

The Ambiente menu does lack of the Czech cuisine. Look here for example of the real Czech menu, not international:

http://bredovskydvur.unas.cz/fotogalerie.htm

Most of the stuff in the menu represents czech traditional cuisine, what Czechs eat when they go out and even prepare in their homes.

The Bredovsky dvur is not far, just a block from the Venceslav Square - the web page is not in English, located here - http://bredovskydvur.unas.cz/poloha.htm
For me The Bredovsky dvur is quite expensive place to eat (a meal 200 CZK, 5 beers 160 CZK). In other restaurants out of the center I usually pay half of the price.
To choose such a restaurant it is generally better to hold back from the main tourists routes-streets. The are lots of good restaurants in the area behind The National Theatre.

As a group of 16 people, you will definetely need a big restaurant and make a reservation in advance.

Other restaurants with Czech cuisine
Close to street NA PRIKOPE:

I heard ambiente was great but I don't know about czech. It was pricey as well. You will have rich locals going in by the look of it. We couldn't get a reservation so we went to a place in Old Town around the Spanish Synagogue area called Kolkovna. It was Czech as many locals were there. It was bustling, affordable and a good meal.

My favorite is Hospoda U Novaka in Nove Mesto near the National Theater. Good Czech food, authentic atmosphere. The menu is all in Czech but the staff can help you out.

If you want high end, try U Zlaté Hrušky up by the Prague Castle.

We had a fabulous but expensive meal at U Modré Kachnicky (Blue Duckling) at their Michalská 16 location. Flambé creps and duck specialties. Our most reasonable and very flavorable meal was in U Suterú a small place at Palackého 4. The pork stuffed with cheese and ham was wonderful.

I also ate at U Modré Kachnicky. It wasn't bad but I didn't think it was very special. It cost about 150 euro for 2.
