Hello,

We are on a long tour of the Balkans and are looking for ideas of places between Bucharest and Sofia to visit. We will have done Transylvania and Bucovina - we are travelling to Bucharest from Sibiu. We have booked 4 nights in Sozopol immediately before going to Sofia for a bit of a beach break.

We have 2 weeks. We are interested in scenery, culture, some museums (not too many). We don't want to do trekking, partying or adventure activities as one of the party is elderly. We dont have our own vehicle.

Can anyone recommend some nice stops in this area?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Veliko Tarnovo in northern Bulgaria is on pretty much every list.

Yes,Veliko Tarnovo is the most obvious choice.

Then there is Varna if you want a coastal city.Ruse just across the border is worth a day or two.

Plovdiv,if you are heading that way towards Sofia? Or do you go straight to Sofia from Sozopol?

Thanks for your input, guys. We are going straight from Sozopol to Sofia, before our flight back.

Looking at a map and from your suggestions ( I know it's not ideal, but I think it would work) I think we would do a loop from Ruse to Plovdiv and then out to Varna and finally Sozopol.

Happy travels to you both.
