We will be travelling around Eastern Europe this spring, and was wondering, what is the best way to reach Lviv from either Poland or Slovakia?
Is there maybe a night train or bus from Warsaw, or would it work better from either Krakow/Przemysl or maybe Kosice?
And from Lviv itself, how are connections to Budapest/Hungary?
Thanks in advance!

yes, buses and trains also =cost more, from most main PLcities. google up lvivecotour (the owner is well used to UKR-'virgins',his name Slav and he occasianlly posts here too). this site shows nearlyall INTERN.bus links to Lviv. though there may be some changes
CHEAPEST is usuallyto go domestic PKP to Przemysl, busstat there=back side of trains, bus to Lviv ev 2 hrs from 8.00
from SK: BUS Kosice-Uzgord (2 in the afternoon),then train,OR lve more early and change bus in MICHALOVCE,the train ride via the Karpatsky is quite beautiful there.also 1 train/day B-lava-Kosice-COP-LVIV [and on to KYIV), but cost much more.
LVIV;to HUN: thats also via COP=bordr point, 1 train daily Mockba-Kyiv-Cop-BPest (joined with the Blava), OR many more MAV Hungar trains from COP,buy ticket only till next stop, get off,get HUF, buy new for cheaper.
nearly all timesfor the express trains are on bahn.de use LVOV as name)

I've tried all of these: bus from Krakow, Minibus from Przemysl, minibus from Rzeszow, Bus from Kosice via Uzhhorod and overnight train from Budapest.
The least painful is to travel by road via Przemysl, takes 2-3 hours including border crossing. Trains via Uzhhorod are slow as the track is not great, that's about 6 hours. The night train from Budapest is good, but for some reason heated to 25 degrees so a bit warm for some.

You can get to Lviv from Warsaw by night train or by bus. The price for bus ticket will be around 30$, for train 70$.
To get to Lviv from Krakow you can take overnight train or bus. The price for bus ticket is 20$ and for train ticket 45$. Or you can take train from any city from Poland to the border city called Pzemysl, walk over the border (30 minutes) and take minibus (called marshrutka) number 208 to Lviv (price 2$). Minibuses are parked down the road.

Just to clarify #3 - from Przemysl, you need to get a bus to the border (Medyka). Its not far, about 20 minutes, but not an easy walk.

I took a minibus from Przemysl (say that 10 times fast) last year and it was relatively painfree. A regular who goes back and forth between Krakow and Lviv claimed that our stop of about 50 minutes at the boarder was longer than normal.
On the way back was a different story.... I tried to use the minibus from Lviv back to Krakow, but my experience was less than enjoyable. The minibus was held up in a queue wayyyyyyy back from the actual border, so I got off the bus and tried my luck at crossing by foot. Had it not been for cuddling up with some Polish/Germans (who obviously knew somebody), I think I would still be in the line today. Very few cars were getting through (my bus was still a long way back in the line) and even at that, I think the total journey from Lviv to Pyzemysl was more like 3 hours, and I felt like that was about as fast as I could have possibly got there. It was interesting experience going back into Poland, especially crossing by foot. Unpleasant, but enjoyable at the same time...
ie: allow lots of time. I'm sure most people have stayed at the Hotel George... it was pretty good (and quiet!). If you've seen Long Way Around with Ewan MacGregor where he takes his bike across Europe/Asia, you'll notice he parks his bike at the bottom of the stairs at the Hotel George. It was kind of fun to see that!
