Danube Delta on Easter

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Romania

Hi,

on Easter holidays I will visit Romania with my family. We want to start with the Danube Delta.

What options do we have to go to scenic places in the delta by boat from Tulcea?

Will there already be tour operators working?

What kind of accomodation will be available outside Tulcea in the delta?

Thank you for your recommendations,

Nikolaus

What options do we have to go to scenic places in the delta by boat from Tulcea?

There are passenger ferries going from Tulcea through the Delta along the Danube's three main channels till the sea, with stops in the villages along the way - although it's possible they won't run on Easter Sunday (May 5).
It's also possible to hire boats of various sizes.

Will there already be tour operators working?

There are at least a few Romanian travel agencies with "Easter-in-the-Delta" offers.

What kind of accomodation will be available outside Tulcea in the delta?

There are pensions/guesthouses (ranging from actual homes to small hotels) in nearly all the villages in the Delta.
Try to book rooms in advance, for local tourist it's an increasingly popular Easter destination

A local tour operator which specializes in Danube Delta Tours will be your best option.
Many hotels located in the Danube Delta area are also offering day-trips
(sightseeing, bird-watching, fishing).

Enjoy your travels !

Hi,

There are many villas in the Danube Delta. I would advise you to go to Mila 23, a small village in the middle of the delta and from there you can go on boat trips to all the delta's atractions.

If you are a group of at least 6 person, it costs around 200euro/person. It is included boat transfer Tulcea-Mila 23 and return, accomodation for 3 nights, all meals(3 meals/per day) and 3 boat trips in the delta.

If you want further details, visit this site www.dunareaveche.ro (unfortunately English version is not ready yet, but you can use google translate) .

As somebody else told you before, choose a good tour operator, specialized on Danube Delta. This is a very special place. You'll need more then accommodation booking. You'll need transport on water, a GOOD guide, a good logistic for your trip. Without this all connections the price will not be so good and you'll loose a lot of time.
