Thinking of going to Croatia for a week in August with my friend. Looking for recommendations for where to go for 2 singles guys in their 30s that would have a bit of culture, good food, a nice beach, and some sun? Would like the option of some nice bars and clubs as well but it's not the priority. | ||

May I suggest instead to stay on beautiful island Šolta. It is only 30 min away from Split, catamarans and ferries run all day on relation Split-Šolta so you can spend mornings exploring Split and hot afternoons swimming and relaxing on Šoltan beaches. There are many flights to Split (SPU airport) and other easy ways to get to Split by train, bus, car, or even ferry). Šolta has been gaining popularity over last couple of years as a tourist destination but it is still much less visited then Brač, Hvar, and other islands so it has perfect ratio of tranquility and fun. There are many cultural events in month of August. There are performances by folklore assemble, by Dalmatian choirs, and by Šoltan opera singer Mia Domaćina, there is Pirate night where pirates on pirate boat come to Šolta to "attack and rob" , just acting number off course but really spectacular to see, there are remains on Šolta from the time of Roman emperor Diocletian, many old churches, castle that used to protect island from Turkish attacks, exposition of Šoltan artists...and you can always go to Split for more culture and history. There are several local public parties in different Šoltan marinas with live music (fishery night) and delicious food, there is Latin party with salsa, bachata, reggaeton, and zumba music, couple of beach bars, and a discoclub. All the marinas are very lively at night. You can easily rent standard or electric bicycle and enjoy breathtaking scenery. Or rent a kayak and explore islets in front of Šolta, maybe go skinny dipping, and enjoy some of the most romantic sunsets you will ever see. Food is delicious, most of restaurants have stunning views, fresh fish and homemade wine and olive oil. There are many family farms that you can visit, taste and purchase award wining extra virgin olive oil, wine, liquors, marmalade, and many other traditional Šoltan products. Maybe get a tour of Šoltan bee keeping property and learn all about harvesting honey. You will probably get here just in time to pick sweet figs while touring the island on foot or by bike. I am Šoltan native and I guarantee that you will fall in love with this island.
