Croatia in OctoberCountry forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia
Hi all, I am due to leave for Croatia for 2 weeks at the beginning of Ocotber. Flying to Zargreb and working my way from there to Split then down the Coast.
Many thanks, Laura | ||
1.look at the normal sites,like hostel/world/z/bookers/etc. any google will show a few dozen more. note that a hoStel (I hope you do use that word in its riht meaning) are all low-cost. And Hrvatska does not have that many of them-and most of them also, like most of the touristy part of the country, effectively stops working end of season=late sept/early oct. So at least check if those you may want are still open-try a booking. | 1
Do you think we will struggle for things to do in October? | 2
It depends what you want to do. If you plan on sunbathing on the beach and swimming in the sea, October may be too late unless you're lucky with the weather. If you are more interested in general sightseeing there is more than enough to keep you busy for 2 weeks. There is a much bigger choice of accommodation in private rooms than in true hostels, and in October prices should be reasonable. | 3
I did a similar itinerary this past Spring, during shoulder season and private accommodation was the best way to go in terms of pricing and we had some great locations. Most often there are people who are just waiting at the bus stations and ask as you get off the bus if you are looking for a room, if this doesn't happen you can usually go to the nearest travel agency and ask, they tend to have a list of people they call. Only in the smaller coastal towns did we have a problem as it wasn't high season so rooms were still 'closed' until things picked up. If you did go this route make sure you get all information before going with someone because once you're in their house it can be hard to turn back...private or shared bathroom, are towels included, how close to center/beach, etc. Also, there is a great place in Split called Hostel Nikolla, which has a nice kitchen, free computer, outdoor dining area and the nicest family runs the place. Some of my favorite places...Plitvice Lakes, Rovijn, Korcula(if you're hitting the islands) | 4
Thanks for your advice. We fly to Zagreb on 5th Oct for 2 weeks and were planning on spending the day there before getting a bus to Karlocav and spending the evening there and finding a hostel. Also are their frequent buses on Sundays? The day after we were planning on getting a bus from Karlocav to Plitvic Lakes and camping there for one night before heading to Zadar. Is camping in the National Park really prohibited in October? I think its such a shame if it is! From Zadar we were thinking of heading to Split-then Havr- island tour- Dubrovnik and back to Split for return flight home! Thanks again, L x | 5
