Croatia in October

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Croatia

Hiya,

I'm looking into going to Croatia in mid-October, namely, Split and Dubrovnik and possibly somewhere else in between. Is it relatively nice and still busy this time of year? I will be traveling on my own and looking for decent food, friendly locals and interesting sights, perhaps the odd beach or two if the weather is looking good. Am I asking too much for Croatia in October? Please advise...
many thanks!

I was there is late September and there were still loads of tourists. By October I suspect that there are far fewer tourists but I would also suspect that it is too cold for beaches by then.

I don't recall anyplace between Split and Dubrovnik worth stopping/staying but you can travel by ferry and island hop. Croatia ferries

Hello,

You must go to Korcula, its amazing!! If you can be there on a Thursday, then go and see the Moreska Dances. There is a Jadroninja ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula and there is a fast boat from Korcula to Split via Hvar (www.krilo.hr).

Mike

I have travelled in Croatia in October and really enjoyed it. Of course you can't count on perfect weather, but often it can be very pleasant. I've swum in the sea near Bol and Dubrovnik in October; I certainly wouldn't go at that time of year for that purpose, but it's possible you'll be lucky. Dubrovnik seems to be fairly busy for most of the year, other places will be quieter - Bol was almost deserted when I went there.

Hey,

depends on where you go, but mostly it's not busy at all at that time of the year. If you're lucky you could go for a swim or two, I did last year! Dubrovnik is ALWAYS too busy, yes. But you should see it anyway :) I also reccomend you island hopping, Hvar and Mljet for example. You might find the campings closed but you can still find some private accomodation without problems. Generally if you're looking for parties and long drunken nights, you might get disappointed. But if you're looking for some relax and still some nice weather and quiet green spots- then this is the right place!

Are you still in Croatia? I just arrived in Dubrovnik (26 Oct) and promptly lost my LP book. If you have already passed through, any advice on highlights and especially accommodation?
