Car rental - Rijeka airport to Dubrovnik

I'd like to rent a car while in Croatia, but there are some issues with this:

The problems
* We land in Rijeka at 23:00 and all the rental offices are closed at this hour.
* We also need car with an automatic gear, which significantly limits our choice of car rental companies (and selection of cars).
* The only company I could find that meets our requirements is www.economycarrentals.com, but it seems relatively expensive (the quote is almost EUR 900). We'll go for it if there's no other choice though.

Specific details if needed:
We're looking for:
* Full-size 1.6L (diesel of similar power is fine) car with automatic gear, e.g. Renault Megane
* Pick up on Sep 3rd @ 23:30 in Rijeka airport
* Return on Sep 15th @ 13:00 in Dubrovnik town (not the airport)

The questions
Q1: Is there a cheaper company that will match the requirements?

Q2: Is there a way to get a taxi to Opatija and rent a car there next morning? If the buses operate at midnight it's also an option, though we'll have suitcases AND backpacks
Q2-1: In this case how much would the taxi/bus cost?
Q2-2: What company allows car pickup in Opatija (I couldn't find anything useful on this one and there's no point going to Opatija if we can't rent a car there) ?

The thing about landing to Rijeka airport - the airport is actually on island Krk. It is one of the smallest and trapped in time airports that I have been to and honestly I would be suprised if it would have 24 hour rent a car desk opened.

If you are landing at 23 in Rijeka (Krk Island), a far better option would be to spend a night on the island (i.e in town Njivice or Malinska - a short taxi ride). There is 1h driving up north to reach Rijeka. Since your goal is Dub. I wouldn't bother too much going to Rijeka (Opatija is nice tough), I would hit streight south if you can get a car on Krk.

Going to Rijeka will make more choice for renting a car - it a big city and a lot of rent a cars http://www.rijeka.hr/Default.aspx?art=7806. Sure thing is that Opatija would not have more rent a car companies then Rijeka unless you have found sth. specific. If so you can take local bus form Rijeka to Opatija of a 1.5 Eur.
