Any old time Muscovite remembers this?Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Russia
I was in Moscow in 1986 (yes, still Soviet Union although not for long). Novyy Arbat was still called Kalinin Prospekt, but was already a center of attraction and strolling. Somewhere along Kalinin I took a picture of a bar / restaurant, and now I can't remember exactly where it was: I'm sure the name of the place has changed, and to make it worse, the picture cutoff part of the name. Can any old time resident of The Hero City help me? I think I can't upload pictures into this forum so I'm attaching a link. Ochin spasibo! Link to the picture:
I dont live in Moscow, but i guess it might be this place: The letters atop the building on your photo might only be a part of word Метелица (Metelica or Metelitsa). So i tried to make a search of it. | 1
Oh, Metelica is still a night club! It was it even 1986 though unofficially. That time it had quite sinister reputation | 2
You guys are the best!!! Yes that's the place. I'm amazed it remains in business -I would have assumed (wrongly) that almost no business from the Soviet era keeps the same name today. With a lot of extra neon, that is. Back in the day the place had nice sidewalk tables (shown in the picture) for coffee and soft drinks (Pepsi was the rage): based on what you say looks like something else was going on behind the curtains, but as a dumb tourist I did not find out. Thanks again! | 3
