A Place To Start

Country forums / Eastern Europe & the Caucasus / Russia

I've used Throntree and Lonely Planet for some time now and have been traveling regularly to S.E. Asia (Vietnam, Hong Kong and Thailand) mostly since 1999, actually beginning in 1987 in Hong Kong when you took off and landed in just about someone's living room with the old airport. Anyway, I dig the travel community and this site very much, and in my humble way I ask for advice on a new destination: Russia.
I'm a good traveller and have enough money to afford nice places this time, but still don't want to overpay or be treted like a fool (who does?) I've been many places except Russia and Africa and want to see the Russia and perhaps the Ukraine area or any other area that offers great
night spots and good music. I hear Disco still get's the most play in Europe.

I'm a musician (guitar and piano), but without the reputation for partying and other crazy behavior. Like many men in their mid-forties, I'd enjoy the opportunity to meet attractive foreign women. I can spend a lot of time if I want, as I'm done working for a while now, and prefer to take the time when meeting foreign women, as you all must already know what 2 weeks of love get's you (divorced). Not ready to jump into any relationships, but want to see the good things that the former Soviet Union offers. I must admit, I have a Russian friend who is gorgeous that has influenced my decision to go to Russia. I work in the Hollywood area in L.A. and see many beautiful Russian women, hence the idea to go to the motherland. If any of you fellas would like to add some words of wisdom or helpful thoughts, feelings about it, that would be great.
It's taken time to get to where I can travel and not have to go on a shoestring, but I know who's got their nose to the ground!

From my guitar to wherever you may be, these Blues are for you!
