Forgive for potentially stupid questions... but...

I heard an unconfirmed rumour that to apply for a Russian visa you must apply through the embassy of your home country. Can anyone confirm or refute this? I'm concerned as I am planning to be in Russia in September and will not be in my home country between now & then. I'd also like some information about how pedantic Russia are about having >6mths before your passport expires. I have attempted to find this out on my own, and after spending…

Police

I read a St. Petersburg tours information booklet. It mentions that we should show a photocopy of our passport to police if we are asked for IDs and do not show them our original passport.

Is it true? Is it also true in Train and in small town such as Tomsk?

Is it also true in Kazakhstan?

Thanks,

Wayne

Visa!

Sorry to be so boring and ask a question that im sure has been asked many times before but im traveling right now and having big problems in finding answers -
I would love to know which would be the best country to obtain a Russian visa - Malaysia, Thailand, cambodia, Vietnam, or china?

When does the visa start - the day i arrive or when issued?

Im holding a British passport.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi there,

Trying to get my Russian Transitvisa (leaving from Kazakhstan) sorted out and already got my Astana - Moscow - St Petersburg train tickets but now I need my ticket out of the country. Want to take the bus St Petersburg - Tallinn and checked www.eurolines.ee and www.eurolines.ru to see if it's possible to book this bus trip online but the Estonian site is not working properly (maybe because I'm in China at the moment) and the russian one is ofcourse in Russian and I can't read russian.

Hi
I know this is going to seem like an awfully redundant question, but I am travelling right now and not able to access good internet connections or any other information. I was just wondering if someone could tell me how to go about getting a russian visa; it sounds complicated with letters of invitation and exact entry points and such. I want to travel there right after my current trip, which will probably mean getting a visa in London, if I can (I don't live there).
Any advice or guidance…

Afteroon all,

I am looking to cycle through parts of Russia and then into Kazakhstan via the city of Omsk.

My question is simple: Will I be able to pick up a Kazakh tourist visa from the Kazakh consulate in Omsk?

I've e-mailed the embassy but no reply, any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Dear "colleagues",

Next month, on my way back from Thailand, I will make a stop-over for just one night (ca. 20 hours) in Moscow.
As I do not want to carry my bags with me through the city, I hope some of you will know whether it is possible (and if so : where ?) to store my luggage safely at the Sheremetevo-2 airport in Moscow (or alternatively whether it will be possible to have my luggage labeled through from Bangkok via Moscow to my final destination).

Many thanks for any helpful reaction…

I'm heading to Moscow for about 8 days in May. I'm not much of a short-term traveller; I usually stay in places for a month or more. But now that I've gone back to the "real world", 8 days is all I can do.

I'm interested in getting out of Moscow for a few days and seeing rural Russia. Is there a good small town outside of Moscow that isn't too far and is worth a 3-4 day stay. I'm thinking I'll do 4-5 days in moscow and then 3-4 in a village. I'm ok with a place where no one speaks english…

After doing some research, it seems that one must apply for a Russian tourist visa in his or her home country. Does this rule also apply to transit visas (logic tells me "no" but sometimes visa rules are less than logical). I am flying Tehran-->via Moscow-->New York and was thinking about picking up a transit visa in Isfahan. Anyone have experience with the consulate in Isfahan? Or Tehran?

Thanks,
