Hello,

I'm curious what people have done for their visa submissions. My wife and I are travelling to Vladivostok from Tokyo in May, then plan to travel by rail to St P over about 3 weeks, and then depending on mood, either fly to UK, or travel a little further on rail.

1.) Do people really book all of their travel and all of their accommodation before submitting their visa application?
2.) What if we want to Couch Surf, or stay in AirBnB? Is this possible?
3.) What is required for the visa registration? If we only spend a day or two at most in a city before we leave, do we have to go through the registration? Is it only if we spend more than 7 days in the one locale? Is a single registration enough? It seems conflicting information.
4.) Is there a way to have flexibility on a tourist visa? Or is it actually easy to receive a Business Visa and we should do that instead?

Regards.

So, did you book all of your travel and accommodation before you applied for your visa? I have looked at RealRussia for visa support. I'll just ask them questions instead of here - I guess they are the experts.

I thought maybe other tourists had stories about how they applied for their visa.

Hi,

We are doing the same. We will be taking the car ferry via South Korea to Vladivostok in late April. How has your search been going?

We got in contact with RealRussia and created an itinerary and had them generate an invitation for us. They told me that since we're not staying in any one place for seven days, we don't need to go through the hassle/expense of registering, either. They said that the Russian consulate in Australia hasn't required all bookings to have been made (or at least proof that they had), so this itinerary and invitation should be enough to obtain the visa, and then we're free to move around the country as we want.

But sadly, it looks like a British visa application for my wife will stop us from undertaking this trip. Again. (This was attempt #3).

Thank you for such detailed information! Oh no! My friend and I are both British citizens and will be applying from Japan. We will try, may as well, but thank you - if the bad news comes - then you have let us down slowly!

Just to confirm: you mean that your British wife can't get a Russian visa because of her nationality?

You might want to check if you can apply from Japan. Are you currently living/working there? I believe that you need to have the right to be living in the country that you apply from, and not just on a tourist visa – at least that seems to be the case for the Russian consulate here in Australia.

Sorry, my Japanese wife can't get a British visa, so we might not make the trip to UK via Russia and Japan.
