Hi Ladies and Gents
I am going to Russia in a few weeks (just for 5 days) and plan to stay with friends, however I have tourist visa, not a visitor/homestay one. I was wondering If that will cause problems for me at immigration. I have a hostel booked but plan to cancel it. Is it better to keep the hostel booking at use that on my arrival card, or will they be ok with me putting my friends name down?

Better keep the booking, if its cancellation doesnt cost you anything.

The immigration card doesn't ask for a Russian address, so that probably won't come up. If immigration ask, give the name of the hotel or hostel that was on your visa support documents.
In the place on the immigration card where they ask for "Name of host person or company", put the name of the company that provided the LOI that you needed for a tourist visa.
If you were staying for 7 or more business days, you'd have to deal with visa registration, which is more difficult if you aren't at a hotel/hostel. But since you're only staying for 5 days that shouldn't be an issue.

Hello!
That hostel where you can make a reservation do you register, ask them. You can live where you want, when leaving the problems will not be.

Hi. I'm also going to visit Russia with a touris visa and have to stay 11 days and intend to stay with local people.
I would like to know if I or my hosts have to make a registration or not.

If you have a tourist visa, then you will have to register your hotel. If the visa is private, the locals who invited you. I'm not doing its guests private invitations, it is not profitable. I buy a travel company invitation and register their guests at them. It is easier and faster. All under the law.
