Howdy gang,

I'm currently bicycling through Finland and interested in continuing to St Petersburg in a couple weeks, and then on to Estonia. I estimate I would need about a week for the cycling, plus another week or so to hang out and experience a bit.

Any advice on going after the visa in Helsinki? I have both Italian and US passports, assuming the Italian one would be cheaper, faster and easier, and hopefully I don't have to apply in one of these home countries?

Does anybody know if it is possible to get a transit visa for biking? If this would be much cheaper and easier then the tourist visa?

I guess I have to get the invitation letter and go through http://www.vfsglobal.com/russia/finland/english/

Also about registering once in Russia, I plan to Couchsurf and wild camp as much as possible, since I doubt I can afford to pay to stay anywhere. Any problems with having the registration paperwork upon exiting at the Estonia border or en route? Is it possible to register at an immigration office instead of via a hotel?

Thanks in advance for your help
