I am trying to complete the russia visa form on the UK russian embasy page.
one drop down menu is for departure point. i plan to depart to Ulaanbaatar on the trans Siberian train but there is no drop down for the border at Naushki or Buryatia. As i will be on a direct train from Moscow, do i use this as the departure port? Does anyone have any experience with this? does the departure point stated acutaly matter?

cheers

The online application is quite new.

Moscow is not your departure point if you are on the train.

Tru Ulan Ude which is the last major stop on the train before the border.

thanks for your reply. It is not an online form that i am completing but the visa application form to then post to the Embassy as they say that is the only one they will accept.

i have used Ulan Ude as the departure point on the invitation document, do you think i am safer getting the visa and invite the same or not quite obeying the embassy and using Naushki?

i am concerned that we won't be allowed to leave russia on the train if we have Ulan Ude as the departure point.

thanks

After much phoning, it appears that as long as the dates are the same on the invite and visa form the departure location does not matter.

Generally speaking you can arrive any time on or after the date on the invitation and depart on or before the final date on the invitation.

While #4 is right, you should put the same dates as the invitation on the visa application.

While #4 & 5 are correct, I always pad my visa (and visa invitation) for a few days - if not 30 days. What happens if you miss your flight? Or are hospitalized? If I am going in on the 1st and expect to leave on the 14th, I'll apply for a visa from the 1st to the 30th. Just in case.
