Hi,
A couple of quick questions regarding a first visit to Moscow from UK. If you apply for a visa and you are rejected do you lose your fee and are UK visa requests often declined? I have absolutely no Russian nor knowledge of Cyrillic, as a lone first time visitor, will getting about by Metro, ordering food etc be too much to deal with?
Many thanks for any help or suggestions.

Well, it could be quite a challenge. Metro stations in Moscow can be confusing. On the other hand, things do tend to work out somehow. My guess would be, you´ll manage.

Yes, you will manage it. Talking about the visa rejection, do not have any figures on the rejection rate in UK but in such a case the money is gone - no refund.

The Metro is not really that difficult to manage. Yes signs are in Cyrillic, but even if you don't understand it it's easy to compare what you see to what's on your map, plus many maps are in both Cyrillic and Arabic characters. If it makes you feel better, on my first night in Moscow -30 years ago when there was minimal foreign tourism- I took the Metro from VDNKh to downtown, strolled around, took it back this time to the suburban terminal in Medvedkovo, and since that was the last train for the night (oops) I had to return to the hotel combining buses (without a bus map) and a shared taxi, even though all I could say was the hotel name. Russians in general are amazingly helpful, almost every time I had a difficult time understanding an answer, they would take me by the hand and walk me to my destination.
