Hi,

I have been looking into visiting Moscow near the middle-end of May but recently heard from a friend who is going through a college course that there is some event going on during that time. I have been looking at ticket prices over the past couple of months and recently saw an incredible jump in prices as well as a decrease in flight availability.

Can anyone confirm or shed more light on a possible holiday/event in Moscow this May?

Thanks a lot!

Dunno about any special events in Moscow this year, but May 1 & 2 (Intl. Worker's Day/Spring Day) and May 9th (Victory Day) are holidays throughout Russia.

Since you're talking about the end of the month, though, I suspect the price spike you're seeing simply reflects the beginning of tourist season (May - Sep is when the vast majority of foreign tourists visit Russia, and is also when most Russians themselves travel.)

The UEFA Champions League Final takes place in Moscow on 21 May 2008. Presumably accommodation will be pretty scarce.

Hi
The prices in the flights within Russia have increased since march due to the beginning of good weather. I am in the South of Russia right now, planning a trip to Moscow for march and I have realised of that too. Moreover, everyone has holidays the 1st and 9th and if we want to travel, we will do it those days. Try to avoid that period. Good luck! Paká :)
