Does anybody know about an helicopter from the Solovetsky islands to Petrozavodsk ? What is the company operating the helicopter ? How much and how frequent is the flight ?

Thanks in advance,

Isabelle

Flight from Petrozavodsk is 3 hours. It is ~380 km from Petrozavodsk to Kem which is the point from which you take the boat to the Solovetsky Islands and it is a couple of hours by boat.

I don't think it is a regularly scheduled flight between Petrozavodsk and Solvetsky. A quick search of the Russian language web sites did not reveal any schedules or prices or the names of any companies.

There is a section of the New RU Sticky about Karelia, I would suggest contacting some of the tourist companies mentioned there.

Or, alternately, you can take a boat from Kem' to the islands. The boat ride takes about 3 hours also. You can get to Kem' from Petrozavodsk by train or bus. A lot of tourist groups in Petrozavodsk also offer tours of the islands so once you get into Petrozavodsk you can arrange to go with them.

OP and Krussia - You can only take the boat from Kem during a limited period from June through early September if I recall correctly. Outside of that time period you can fly from Moscow, Petrozavodsk, or Arkhangelsk.

That's true, Ruth. I forgot that it's March! I took the boat in July and August, but I'm not sure when the season starts and stops for sure. In summer 2006 the boat left Kem' at 8 am and arrived in Solovki at 10:30 am. It left Solovki at 5 pm and arrived in Kem' at 7:30 pm. Boarding time was 30 minutes before departure. The boat cost 800 rubles for foreigners, 400 for Russians, 200 for Russian kid 5-10 and free for kids under 5.

I do not think regular flights exist.
