ALL museums and theaters have cloak rooms where you can check a bag. Most Russian women carry their shoes and where boots in the winter and everyone wears a coat in winter.
Slacks are fine. It is jeans that make little sense.
Not sure where you are from but in the US you can order slacks from places like LandsEnd.com in so many sizes and styles that there is no need for jeans.

Thx again Ruth. Yeh, have been to the Lands End website (and despaired, not for the first time).
The smallest they do is US 2 which would drown me.I thought in a market as big as the US there would be some label that did size 0 (still too big but acceptable).
Seems there isn't. There is no other place to go. So it's my lot in life to always look daggy, with the smallest size pants needing a belt. I guess it's easy for you to meander in and buy anything that takes your facny.
Being a sz 8, 10, 12, whatever.
