Hi,

Pretty sure that the border is open, but does anyone know for sure that the Abkhazian/Russian border at Adler is currently open? Moreover, any advice from anyone who has made the journey? The plan is to travel in from Sochi, spend a couple of days in Sukhumi/surrounding mountains, and then head back into Russia on a double-entry visa.

Thanks!

Seems you'll need to spend a longer time there for it takes up to 5 days to process Abkhazian entry visas at their Foreign Ministry's Consular Service in Sukhumi. See http://wikitravel.org/en/Abkhazia

Border is open, all the information you can find here: http://mfaapsny.org/en/council/visa.php

First, you'll need to do online application, it takes the Consular Service 7 working days to process an application. You'll get entry permit letter to entry to Abkhazia. There you must visit the Consular Service within three working days in order to receive the visa of the Republic of Abkhazia.
