I'm going to Moscow in a few weeks. I know that the Bolshoi is under full renovation, but does anyone know if any of the other monuments (St. Basil's, the churches inside the Kremlin, etc.) are under construction/renovation, or have scaffolding?

Thanks.

i was there yesterday! there is some scaffolding around (i remember trying to avoid them in my photos), but apart from the bolshoi, not on any of the "bigger" sites... wasn't a big issue for me.

The Bolshoi was under renovation when I was there in mid 2006. Does anyone know when it's likely to be completed as I'm heading to Moscow again at the end of the year and would love to see it!!

Thanks everyone. Nicktomy-I heard the Bolshoi will be open again by Christmas 2009. I it's holding limited performance in the meantime though.

the scaffolding does have a giant tarp done-up with a drawing of the architecture, so it's not too too ugly. there was some construction of buildings nearby, but technically not the kremlin... i think.

Hi Gio78:
I have just arrived from my trip to Moscow, and I am really sorry to tell you there are more renovations and things you'll miss. Bolshoi is indeed in renovations and its even surrounded by fences, so no chance to see it really. Moreover, Lenin's tomb is being repaired and it wont be opened until the 17th of April. One of the buildings of the red square is also being repaired and it has scaffolding. I dont know exactly what it is, because in that way i couldnt see it. The Novodevichy convent has also a scaffolding in the Church of Transfiguration gate (the main entrance) plus the Cathedral of Smolensk is being repaired (doesnt open until the end of May) so, you cant go inside (the exterior is intact). One of the churches in the Kremlin was closed too when i went and also another one which is a musseum nowadays. Thats all the renovations I have found in my trip. I hope they are useful to you :)
