Hi all - i have a question. I am considering taking the Trans Siberian in mid November with a five day stop in Irkutsk for Lake Baikal. What will the climate be like at that time? Can I expect some snow and ice, or will it still be more autumnal? I must admit that I'm attached to the romantic idea of a wintery journey on the Trans Siberian, but suspect November the 15th may be too early for that. Maybe I should do it another time?

Thanks in advance, I know you guys are always amazingly helpful on these matters

Thanks Lenny, this is a better climate summary than anything I'd found. It seems to indicate that after 10th November there is a high chance of snow in the Irkutsk area, I'd be interested to know whether that tallies with people's own experiences. Must admit I'm still unsure about what is likely to be the situation in Lake Baikal itself - which I understand is 8 degrees warmer than Irkutsk at the start of winter. So does anyone know if there is likely to be snow or ice at Baikal? I have done research but the evidence seems a bit conflicting...

Temperature are normally a little "-" in Celsius at this time of the year, I'll say more winter weather - don't forget to bring warm clothes with you.

You definitely can expect to see some snow, but not ice at Baikal. Baikal becomes covered with ice later in December - January.

P.S. I hope you'll enjoy your trip to Baikal!
