I am trying to book train tickets on rzd.ru and have got through to the payment stage but can't pay! I am receiving the error message below (after trying to book with two different Australian visa cards).

Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong?

(I'll also try the email address provided but thought I'd check here too in case people are have had similar problems.)

I just tried a third visa card that is with a different bank and it's gone through, so I assume there was a problem at the Australian bank's end.

This has been reported in the past and it always seems to be the particular bank in the foreign country, especially in Spain.

It might help to report which bank card worked and which didn't.

Good tip Everbrite.
As I mentioned, they are both Australian banks.
The one that didn't work was actually a credit union - NSW Teachers Credit Union.
The one that did work was National Australia Bank.

I paid once with an ABN AMRO (Dutch) credit card and got it fine.

With credit card fraud increasing, banks are getting paranoid and it's increasingly likely to be your bank, not the website you're using, that's the problem if a carde fails to work on an overseas website.

The Italian Railways Trenitalia website has this problem, you virtually have to ask your bank to unblock your card for that site before you use it! So many UK banks now block the use of their card on this site, though they don't tell you, and Trenitalia doesn't explain what's happening either!

Anyone had similar problems with Mastercard? I hope to book on line soon and don't have a VISA card only the other sort. Would be good to be forewarned.

Thx.

ninataka - it is not a question of VISA or MasterCard. It is a question of the sponsoring bank.
