Hi, going up to Vorkuta in Feb, just wanting to know if peeps have any up to date costs for accomodation there.
I have seen the website below but dont know how old/up to date it is. Also checked out the old posts here and didn't see anything about costs.. just wondering if anyone has been recently or over the summer and knows?
cheers for any info in advance,
SamInformation on Vorkuta

It is not a commonly visited town so I am not sure that you will find much more information about it unless you can read Russian. I doubt that there are too many hotels in town that accept foreigners so I don't imagine that your choices will be many. While Hans was there a few years ago, his information is generally accurate except for the prices which you can be assured have increased, probably significantly since then.

The reason... I'm making a photographic book about 'end of the road' loactions. I have travelled a lot in central asia and (strangly it may seem) really enjoy being in odd desolete locations, I find the whole experiance quite amazing and marvel at how people can live there at all times.
I will be travelling in Feb, not nov which prob makes things a little worse.... I have no control in this this.
I can speak basic/some Russian, in central asia I was often mistaken for someone form the Ukraine or the Baltic regions... not been to 'proper Russia' before so not sure how that will pan out.. By saying that prices will skyrocket, how much do you mean?? a couple of hundred rubles? a thousand? how much? Thats what I'm interested in!
Thanks
There are at least two hotels in Vorkuta. The Russian websites don't list prices for either of them.

I don't think it makes a difference whether you travel in Nov or Feb or Jun. You are a foreigner. You are in a place where foreigners are uncommon. Hotels may not have the appropriate permission to actually have foreigners stay and to properly register them and thus you may be refused.
I would suggest you consider contacting the travel agency I mentioned above to discuss with them the possibilities before you get there. Feb is awfully cold to have to sleep outside.

I looked into this myself recently. There is a good website in English about Vorkuta but i cant remember the name. You can get a hotel for 500 rubles though

Hi all, thanks for the info - sorry for the late reply.
Ruth, the info you have posted on #4 has come up as random letters. I remember seeing this elsewhere and it was mentioned there was a way of changing settings so the text is displayed properly... any ideas how?
I will be heading up there approx Feb 7th, I will post any info I find out.
Thanks
Sam
