I'll be travelling to Romania in a couple of day, one of the places I'll like to see is the Transfăgărăşan road, between Transylvania and Wallachia. I've read that it's closed for most of the year because of the snow, does anyone know if it's open at the moment? and is there any public transport to cross it?

Thanks

Only the highest section of the Transfagarasan gets closed for the winter (and it's still closed at this time), the rest of the road is accessible all year round.
Unfortunately there is no public transport on it, not even in summer.

Thanks ktack, it looks I'll have to leave it for another time.. I've followed your past posts with interest. Do you know when is the Juni Pageant at Brasov, this year? and one more cuestion, I read in one of your posts, that the road from Bucharest to Constanta is quite good, what's the best option to do this trip, the train or the bus?

I think it already happened (on April 26).

Yes, the road between Bucharest and Constanta is good in terms of surface quality, most of it is a new motorway. Or were you asking if Constanta is a good option for a trip from Bucharest? It is, but it's not exactly the top option.

Anyway, as the railway between them is undergoing some modernization works, the best way to travel between Bucharest and Constanta is by bus; you can check schedules here.

Thanks ktack, I'm arriving at Bucharest at mid day, my idea is to take the bus to Constanta, get to see the place for the rest of the day and to go towards Sulina (from Tulcea) the next day. Is there any other more interesting option between Constanta and Tulcea to spend the first night?

That way you're not going to have too much time to see Constanta: the bus trip from Bucharest takes about 3 1/2 hours, so if you leave at mid day you'll get there late in the afternoon, then the next day you'll have to leave relatively early to Tulcea (~2 hours away) to catch the only ferry to Sulina which leaves at 1PM.

So it might be wiser to head straight to Tulcea (there are direct buses from Bucharest) and spend the night there, even though it's less interesting than Constanta.

Thanks for your help ktack, yes that makes sense, I think I'll head straight to Tulcea.

Cheers!
