Does anyone know what's the mosquito situation at this moment at the Danube Delta, is mosquito repellent as necessary now, as during summer?
Thanks!

I spent a lot of time in the tropics of Asia but I never saw so many mosquitos try to get at me as in the Danube Delta in summer. We were camping (we actually got stranded when our motorboat broke down and the drunk boatman ran off - but that's a different story) and were trying to cook - the cloud of insects became so bad that we had to give up on warm food. Daytime was no problem - at dusk they attacked. One of those mesh hats would seriously have been a good idea.
I did take a fly swatter with me on that trip just for fun, and it ended up being very useful against those big flies that land on you, wait about 10 seconds and then sting.

During the last two years I had no problems with mosquitoes in the Danube Delta. You may take an anti-repellent (you never know), but if there is a little bit of wind they won't disturb you. Else, when you sit, there are some spirals that you can burn and the smoke keep the mosquitoes away for the evening.
All best,
Radu
