I'll be in Bucharest for a couple of days including Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Does anyone know of any events during this time? or a local event website that might have anything? From the research I've done online and paper guides, it seems like nothing notable is happening... :/

I have not been in Bucharest on Christmas day, but I know a few people who have. From what I remember them saying Christmas day is celebrated on December 25th, but is only second best to Easter which gets more attention. Most hotels do a special menu that is more fancy than normal. That is all I know.

I went to Bucharest a few years back now during Christmas and there was a gorgeous Christmas market and skating rink in Unirii Park - well worth a look, I'm sure it will be open on Christmas Eve! Apart from that there were lots of nice places to eat.

Roman Christmas...or Orthodox Christmas...? Roman is in December...Orthodox in January...

Bucharest is filled with old Orthodox Churches...their services are long and mystical...the church of "bells and smells"....lots of chanting, bell ringing...and incense...

Visit your favorite Icon... There is no required ceremony to attend like in Roman churches....you come and go and wander around as you please...

Orthodox Christian rites remind me of Hindu Temples on one hand ... and the Catholic Church on another...

The younger people hang out near the modern part of town by the Capitol...at night...the part that Ceaușescu built...

Romanians have many public gardens...which unlike some East European gardens...are carefully kept up...
