Myself and my girlfriend are going to Wroclaw for 3 nights at the start of November.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel near enough to the city?

I stayed in the Hotel Tumski, a few years back...good hotel and I particularly liked the location, across the river and approx 5/10 minute walk from the main square...

About 300 euro for the 3 nights, could possibly do more if the hotel was amazing

Good.
If you want it comfy but also kind of steril I recommend the Hotel Mercure Wroclaw Centrum (previously Mercure Panorama). It is included in a shopping centre (Galeria Dominikańska) and 5 minutes from main square by foot.
A hotel I liked very much is the Qubus Hotel Wroclaw. It is more intimate, equipped with a small indoor pool and even closer to the main square.
