My home city has the reputation among Poles as being gritty and grey, which to some degree is true, but it has interesting corners and sights too. I can list some of them as follows:
1. Open-air museum presenting old wooden houses of early 19. century Lodz – “Skansen Miejskiej Architektury Drewnianej”, Piotrkowska St. 282 (part of the Museum of Textile Industry), some photos can be seen here: [http://miasteria.pl/miejsce/Skansen-Miejskiej-Architektury-Drewnianej.html]
2. Art Museum - “Muzeum Sztuki” [http://www.msl.org.pl/en/index], unfortunately the main building and its exhibition are closed now for renovation, but new exhibitions are to be seen on new location Ogrodowa St. 19 in the Manufaktura amusement and shopping complex, which itself is an interesting example of renovated early 20. century industrial architecture and is close to the Poznański Palace from the same period,
3. Museum presenting the history of city’s sewers, in an underground circular cavity of former flushing-water tank (hence the Polish name “Dętka” that means “tyre”, due to its shape) under Plac Wolności Sq., some photos here: [http://www.muzeum-lodz.pl/inne/detka.php] (the site says “Dętka” is only open spring-summer-early autumn)
4. Old Jewish Cemetery and the monument to Jews from Lodz who suffered and perished in WWII Lodz Ghetto and German Nazi death camps – information here: [http://www.lodzjews.org/root/form/en/radegast/index.asp]

Eateries that I can recommend:
1. Varoska – Hungarian themed restaurant, Traugutta St.4,
2. Anatewka – Jewish themed restaurant, 6 Sierpnia St. 2/4
3. U Chochoła – Polish folk food, Traugutta St. 3 (the other location Piotrkowska St. 200)
The above mentioned are located close to the main pedestrian street Piotrkowska, which is home to some interesting pubs and restaurants, among them:
4. “Peron 6” pub, Piotrkowska St. 6
5. The Mexican restaurant, Piotrkowska St. 67
6. Irish Pub, Piotrkowska St. 77, has live music on evenings
7. Esplanada restaurant, Piotrkowska St. 100
Various restaurants and bars are located “shoulder to shoulder” in a long red-brick building close to Drewnowska St. in the Manufaktura complex, accessible from the “Main Square” of the complex.

Have a nice time in Łódź !
