Hello I will be spending two weeks in Poland this summer. Keep in mind, I do not mind eating cereal for breakfeast and eating street meet for lunch. For supper I would prefer I sit down meal in a restauraunt. A for accomodation, I am looking at hostels. How much would be a decent daily budget? is 100$ us a day enough?

Bear in mind, that if you're trying to keep your overheads low, as you seem to be, that eating your main meal in the middle of the day in a restaurant is usually a lot cheaper than eating out at night...most hostels have a kitchen where you can make something light for breakfast or evening time...you should be able to get by on 100$ or less...

My husband and I just returned from 3 weeks in Poland. You can definitely do $100/day, but it takes a little more research in the larger cities (we spent much time in rural areas). Research your accommodations for a good budget option. Most attractions such as museums and nightlife, at least in Krakow, were very inexpensive. You can easily find large breakfast or lunch for $5.00. Many guesthouses include an enormous breakfast in the cost--probably not in a hostel, though. You will not be able to have dinners in well-known fancy restaurants, but aside from that, it shouldn't be a problem. We found public transport to be quite inexpensive, unless you plan an overnight sleeper train couchette.

Alcohol is inexpensive, unless you drink wine. That seemed to be on a comparable basis to the US. We had a bottle of wine with every dinner, eating in very good restaurants, and the wine usually was half the cost.

#4: You can buy inexpensive wine if you know where to look. The top two large store chains would be discount stores Biedronka and Lidl. You can get pretty good red wine for 15-20 PLN (4.70-6.25 USD) - South American and Spanish, French is usually slightly more expensive for similar quality. In Lidl you can find wines for 10-12 PLN, but I wouldn't recommend those.

In large supermarkets (and especially hypermarkets) you can get the cheapest quality wine for slightly more, about 22-25 PLN.

One thing in above replays made me laugh...question was about cost of holidays...step by step we came to the detailed revision of alcohol prices :)

100 USD/day should be enough!

Good day!

If you plan to stay in hostels, you should get by on half the amount you mention as accom is usually the most expensive part of a holiday.

Pitor1981, I'm not sure I would consider the 15-20 zl price range for wine at those cheaper supermarkets as 'pretty good wines', though I admit they are drinkable...

the evening dinner in a good place in those cities is between 20 and 30 usd, including beer. Lunch can be as cheap as 5 usd. Dorms at hostels start at 10 usd. 100 per day will be enough in your case.

for me as local, i can get by with 30-40 usd daily while travelling in Poland....
So my guess is that for you it could be around 50-70 usd to live well...

100 usd daily is more than enough, or is OK (big :) ) for 2 people

edit: we talk here about currency exchange rate around 1 usd= around 3 pln....

And Piotr is right about wine, you can find decent wine bottle for around 15-20 pln in those discounts
