As I said, if you want to have a peace of mind you might order the tickets 2-3 months before the trip by phone and have them mailed to your US address. I don't think this would be necessary, though, unless it makes you feel comfortable. Have a nice trip!

Note that in Warsaw the train stops at all three main stations. Probably you will want Warszawa Centralna.

You can buy the Sparschiene-tickets (59 EUR in a T3-cabin per person) also via phone: Dial +43 5 1717, then 1, then 2.
Payment is via creditcard, you will then get a booking-code, with which you can receive your ticket at any train station in Austria (ticket office or ticket machine). To get the Sparschiene-fare, I recommend to book in advance (booking period is 3 months for this train, IIRC).

Also important:
The overnight train to Warsaw will leave from Wien Westbahnhof (Vienna West station) instead of Wien Suedbahnhof (Vienna South station) from december 14th.
Daytime trains to Warsaw will continue to depart from South station in 2009.

Helmut,

I tried it several times via SkyPe and it did not work at all. I can dial anything anywhere via SkyPe, even number of your favorite ZC provodniks, but not the number of ÖBB. Had to use regular phone... :( Any idea, why is that? AFAIK, dialing DB number via SkyPe works. Many times tried with SkyPe the otherwise useless MÁV number, works, too.

I did not mention Sparschiene because these aren't sold on-line to Warszawa and had that experience with the phone. But yes, dialing +43-5-1717 , 1, 2 did work for us this Summer. It was a rather expensive call, but if it works for the ladies out, they will save quite a bit of money.

One thing to mention: the queues at Westbahnhof can be intimidating - expect to wait 1-2 hours.

Greetings from Beograd!
