I am not sure whether to visit Gdansk or Warsaw. I am leaning toward Gdansk, but I have not been to the capital either. I will be coming from Wroclaw, so I am not excited about the long train ride from Wroclaw to Gdansk. Nightlife, beauty, history, and culture are important to me. Which city would you recommend?

Both cities have at least their fair share of history and culture - in Gdansk there's an interesting museum about the Solidarity movement and the fall of communism, and the Gdansk shipyard where the unions initially stood up against the government. In Warsaw there are museums about Chopin and the Warsaw rising, to name a couple. Gdansk is certainly the more beautiful city, and has, in my opinion, a friendlier atmosphere. Warsaw feels very much like a capital to me - people rush around and seem a little closed-off. However, it's a lot more lively in the evenings. Maybe I was just going to the wrong places, but both times I've been to Gdansk all life in the centre basically seemed to die off at sunset. Warsaw has rather more to offer.

Warsaw has more museums, more shops, open for longer and more going on in the evening. Gdansk is more beautiful.

When I had a few days spare in Wroclaw I headed south to Klodzko, Kudowa Zdroj and the Gory Stolowe national park. This is really impressive, and the psa town + countryside is a striking contrast to Wroclaw city life. And only a couple of hours by bus.

You will find lots of interesting objects in Gdansk
i.e St. Mary's Church-the biggest church made of bricks in Europe),
Amber Museum,
Westerplatte (the place where the II WW started), the place where Solidarity movement was born, the Solidarity Square with the exhibition "The Road to Freedom", the fortress from Prussian and Napoleon's ages a many others.

You can stop in Warsaw for couple of days, that will break your long train ride from Wroclaw to Gdansk.I personally prefer Gdansk, but Warsaw has a lots to offer as well. remember Warsaw is rebuilt after warit was bombed during war. Gdansk is more authentic.
Good luck
