Well... kind of. If you rent a room instead of a place of your own, and you can cook, you will be able to. But it won't exactly be a pleasurable lifestyle.

Many poles live on less than this. Doable but not luxury.

Legally, the minimum monthly wage in 2011 will be 1.386 PLN before taxes/social security which equals US$ 460 (probably excatly your pay). It is doable, but you'll have to live like a Polish student. That might not only involve renting a room only, but sharing a room with someone. Can't say anything about prices in Torun, but in Cracow, you'd struggle to find a room under 600 PLN a month.

Toruń is cheaper than Kraków. For 700 zł/month a small separate flat can be rented, a room for half the price. www.szybko.pl + google translate might give you some ideas about the prices.

A 1-course lunch menu in Toruń costs 10-12 zł, even cheaper in student canteens.

IMO sharing a room is indeed going to be a must for that kind of income. Pretty much all students in eastern europe do it.

And a student canteen isn't going to provide good nutritional value. Cooking skills are essential.

Have you been to any of those in Toruń? My experience was pretty good. And they're cheap because they are subsidized.

I haven't been the ones in Torun! Maybe its great like you said.

I'm just speaking more about personal memories of student days. While I was glad I could eat canteen food back when I was 18, I don't think I could suffer it now.
