off to krakow for a weekend in march and looking for cool places to stay. Something out of the ordinary for whatever reason - arty or over the top or mad. Is there/do you know any?

There you go. I've done Poland many times, but not been to Auschwitz.
Hope you have a real good time. The Polish people are just incredibly wonderful - and the Saturday nights are amongst the best you'll find anywhere. Make sure you've got a bed before you go out. You'll need it. They just don't let you leave until you're beyond staggering.
Kriss - Manchester (another 24 hour party city!!!!).

Flamingo Hostel is pretty good - http://www.flamingo-hostel.com/. Not really "crazy" but it's a bit quirky, very close to the main square and has a nice vibe.

I have stayed at the Any Time Hostel in Krakow and really liked it. The location is good, in the Jewish district, lots of funky, artsy cafes/bars surrounding it.

The breakfast was especially good and the staff was very helpful.

As a side note, I was looking at Hostel World's page on Krakow hostels and realized there are a huge # to choose from. I had a bad experience at a hostel in Krakow once, but can't seem to remember the name. Just make sure you go with a hostel that's been reccomended to you, don't just choose the cheapest one like I did;)

I stayedat the Flamingo and was shocked at how horrible it was. from their site and a vote I saw it looked good. When I stayed there it was expensive, depressing. Facilities were bad and staff really rude.

I wouldn't have a problem with that - as long as my room's has got a floor. If the mattress, pillow - in fact the bed as well, were all missing when I got back from some of my nights out there, I wouldn't have noticed.
Best cure for a hangover in Polska???? A glass of chilled ale at 8am. Luvlee.
