We are in Turkey , and would like to go to Georgia for two days. We will cross the border at Posof, since we are near there.

What could we do, is there something interesting near that border ?!
We have our own transport. Driving to Tiflis and back does not seem so appealing to us.
How is the road from Akhalstikhe to Batum? Is there asphalt? How many hours driving is it? Anything interesting on the way? Landscape nice? We would then go back over the Hopa border.

Or should we go to Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda and then back in a circle? What are these towns like? How about the landscape?

Thanks in advance.

Do Vardzia - Lake Tabatskuri - Bakuriania - Borjomi - Posof; or go via the Goderdzi Pass to Batumi, this mountain pass is not surfaced, but unless there is a lot of rain doable in a normal car.

Thanks so much!
Is there a village near Do Vardzia ? I cannot find it on the map?
Can you give directions?

Vardzia is off the main road at Khertvisi. Khertvisi itself is roughly halfway between Akhalkalaki and Aspindza. There are some homestays and simple guesthouses, close to Vardzia.

I could also add that there is a fortress in Akhaltsikhe, which might be of interest. Recently renovated, so it might all look a little bit too new. Still worth it as it is on your way.

How far is it off the road?
Thanks !!

From Khertvisi I would say about half an hour, if not less. It's a good road. From Akaltsikhe it's probably around 90 minutes, also on a good (and scenic) road.

I will be in that area in October. Kalpea-tuli- It would be fantastic if you would post the results of your trip. :)
