Hello everyone

I am thinking to visit the olympic games in Sochi. As the hotel prices are really expensive in Sochi and Adler, I was thinking of staying in Abkhazia (have been there 3 years ago).

Does anyone know how the boarder will be handeled during the games (apparently it is closed during the games for "normal" cars)? Is there still the need to have a LOI and a visa issued in Suchum or is there a special rule during the olypmics from the Abkhaz side? Can anyone recommend a hotel, which is close to the boarder?

Thank you for your help!

Best

The only thing I know is, some governments (a.o. Dutch) stongly discourage people to visit Abhkazia due to the political situation (Georgian-Russian relationship and claims), and not only in the Olympic era.

You would need a multiple entry visa for Abkhazia (which doesn't exist) and a multiple entry visa for Russia (which are hard to get)

I have a 2 year multiple entry visa for Russia. So this would not be the issue... I thought that Abkhazia might have special "rules" during the olypmics...

In fact, there are "special rules" applied during the Olympics - but reverse to what you hoped for...
