NYE in Gudauri - hire car / helicopter transfer?

Hi all,

We are planning to spend New Year's Eve in Gudauri and have a few questions, please:

  1. We plan to hire a car and drive up from Tbilisi. Will there be snow on the roads and would you recommend a 4x4?

  2. I hear it may be possible to take a helicopter from Tbilisi to Gudauri. Do you have any information on operators that offer this / their safety ratings?

  3. Where would you suggest we eat and drink in Gudauri on NYE?

Gudauri is quite small
Been to Georgia 5 times, about 10 months total, in summer & autumn, stopped in Gudauri only once.
Yes, skiiing in winter, but again rather small... probably the menus will be very similar

Personally i prefer home-cooked food vs hotel restaurants (except Hong Kong)
