Hi All

It looks like we'll be living in Tbilisi within 6 weeks and I was wondering which suburb we should live in, and where we should look for a good apartment, any help appreciated:

Suburb: We are looking for a suburb that is central (near to Freedom Square or Shota Rustavelli and close to nightlife and parks, but with good public transport, access to decent supermarkets etc. Is there such a magical place?

Apartment: Does anyone know which websites or real estate agents we should be looking at to get an affordable but nice apartment in Tbilisi. By 'nice' I mean has hot water, double bed, natural light, comfortable - Nothing over the top. We are hoping to pay more or less USD400 per month for a two bedroom apartment. Is that do-able? There is only two of us (a couple) so maybe it is more sensible to look for a one bedroom?

Any advice you can provide would be great and thank you :-)

You can try makler.ge that's where I found my place. Depending on the area you can get a 2 room place from $300. You shouldn't have any problems at all finding quite a nice place if you're willing to pay up to $400/month. The best areas are probably Saburtalo or Vake. Saburtalo has the 2nd metro line, lots of shops. Vake is a bit more upscale and has no metro but enough buses. Lots of places in the immediate center are situated in quite scenic areas but the buildings are very old and some have no indoor plumbing. And just so you know, what's referred to as the suburbs are the areas full of towering Soviet-era concrete blocks located far from the center. When dealing with realitors here, know that their fee comes from the apartment owner, not from you, so you won't be paying them anything directly. Realitors may or may not speak English. Makler.ge site has an English option and they had an English speaking operator but with the realitor, as well as the apartment owners, I spoke Russian.
