Hi all

I'll be in Georgia from the 26th Sept till 5th of October and want to spend a few days in the Kakheti region and take part in the annual grape harvest. How easy it for tourists to participate in this?? is there any noteworthy festivals/feasts related to the harvests that would be worth going to? where is the best place to go to get information on how to do it? If anyone has actually done it and can give some first hand experiences and contacts that would be fantastic, many thanks

Hi,
Grape harvest seems good idea. I'll also be in Georgia in next weeks.

''Chupprayon'' - I understand that there are elections in Georgia and I expect some demonstrations in big cities. But what do you mean with violence? Is it safe to travel around? e.g Svaneti, Tusheti, Batumi...

At this moment no one can tell you. Tusheti, Svaneti and other remote areas will be safe for sure. But Batumi, Tbiilisi, and other large cities anything can happen. Right now there are huge and peaceful demonstrations in the larger cities. But things can and have changed quickly in Georgia, and many demonstrations in the past have turned violent (either because authorities dispersed, or because the protestors themselves were violent). What happens on and after election day is anyone's guess, but most election outcomes (opposition winning, government winning with or without election fraud, no one outright winning the election) I am afraid will lead to a very unstable situation in the country. It's a mess.

Chupprayon- Are you in Georgia and witnessing problems first hand? In the US, we might not hear much about it.

Yes I am in Georgia. There were large demonstrations on Rustaveli and Chavchavadze, and alterations between police and protestors at the tv station on Kostava. Personally I will stay home on election day and wait how things develop. People are scared
