Georgia in October 2014 your Suggestions please

Well hello there, and good evening,

let me start by thanking you for your input ahead of time. THANKS!

My wife and I are seasoned travellers. Since the birth of our son (7 years old) we have changed our travel-habits. Before it was mostly road-trips covering many countries, now we tend to be happy when our son is. That usually involves sticking to two or three places, spending days soaking up local life and culture, while he is busy making friends with the local kids, playing in the yard running around most of the time.

We prefer villages or small cities over big towns. Home-stays over hotels. Farms over beaches. Places don't have to be normal tourist sights, though that is fine also.

Here is what we know:

18 days in October, starting the 2nd.

Plenty of time for us to plan, and for you to share your thoughts.

It is a bit late in the season, you risk some bad weather.
Otherwise the most pleasant places ares the mountain villages where you can stay in a homestay. YOu can look for a homestay where they have children of the same age.
Svaneti is the obvious first choice. But there are other possibilities too.

I traveled to Georgia last year in October. The weather was nice (it was early October) but the weather in the mountains outside Tbilisi was different. It was cold. Georgia is such a fabulous country with warm and friendly people. Your children will definitely find many new good friends there. I have very fond memories of it and its neighbor country Armenia. 18 days for Georgia is a bit too much. So you may consider a side trip to Armenia. The village where I stayed one nights, Haghpat, was very nice. It's near the Georgian border. It must take less than 2 hours to get there from Tbilisi.
