does anyone know when the earliest transport leaves from batumi to zugdidi, and the latest time a mastrutka leaves from zugdidi to mestia? is it possible to get from batumi to mestia in one day?

From Zugdidi to Mestia, my mashrutka left at 3 pm. I think there will likely always be a mashrutka in the afternoon. But if all the seats are sold it may leave earlier. So yes you can do Batumi Mestia on the same day.

2 weeks ago the first one was 11am, turn up 30 mins early as it is full and left early. They take you to the Mestia service and we arrived there about 5pm, very easy.

We arrived to Zugdidi by the night train and there were quite a few marshrutkas taking you to Mestia. They did fill up pretty quickly. However, I assume there is a transport to the town later.
But in answer to your question about Batumi-Mestia - I assume so, since I can say for certainty you can go from Mestia-Batumi by marshrutka. Our marshrutka left around 6.30 and took 5 hours to get to Batumi. I think this is an easier option than messing around changing in Zugdidi.
