Hello -

I am planning a 2 week trip to Georgia for the last two weeks of September. I was hoping to spend a couple of days in Batumi towards the end of September. What is the weather likely to be like - will people still be at the beaches/swimming in the sea or ill it be too cold by then?

Thanks!

The weather in Batumi (where I lived for two years) is usually warm in late September (though, of course, there are no guarantees...) Beach-season really only runs through mid-September, though, so some of the summertime cafes and discos on the shore may already be shut for the season. However, there are still plenty of restaurants and cafes that are open year-round.

I'll add, however, that I very seldom ventured in the water in Batumi, as it was none too clean, and the rocky beach isn't very nice anyway. If you want to swim, better to hop a marshrutka (mini-bus) down to Sarpi or Gonio where the water quality is much better.

As the above poster said, it is changeable by that time. I was in Batumi last Oct. 3-5 and it had been warm and sunny the previous few days, but our stay there was cloudy, rainy and in the 40s-50s (Farenheit). We still enjoyed it there, but it wasn't beach weather. We stayed in Gonio and there were zero restaurants open south of Batumi by that point.
